Phynner Payton
Phynnner Payton was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 25, 1938 and entered onto the kingdom of our Lord on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Kennedy University Hospital in Washington Township, New Jersey. He was one of nine children born to the late Joseph Lee and Betty Payton of Enfield, North Carolina.
Phynner served our country by enlisting in the United States Airforce. after he was honorably discharged from military service, Phynner resided in Brooklyn, New York where he met his future wife, the late Fannie (McCaskill) Payton. They were joined in Holy Matrimony in 1960. During their 33 years of marriage, they raised eight children: Michele Waters Pritchett, Debora Anita Payton McDaniel, Michael Leonard Payton (deceased), Gina Denise Payton (deceased), Derek Payton (deceased), Monique Payton, Alicia Payton (deceased) and Sean Payton (deceased).
In the early 1980's, Phynner and his wife Fannie, along with their eldest son Michael, relocated to Jersey City, NJ. For many years Phynner was a staff employee of the United States Post Offices until he retired in 2010.
Phynner remained in Jersey City after the passing of his wife Fannie in 1993, until 2014, when health issues became a factor in his daily life. for the past three years, Phynner resided and received his medical care at Manor Care Deptford NJ Healthcare Center and Elmwood Hills Healthcare Center in Blackwood, NJ.
Phynner is survived by one sister, Shirley Lowrey of Baltimore, MD. He was predeceased by his sisters: Ada Saunders, Anita Smith of Cambridge Heights, NY, Phyllis Epperson of Brooklyn, NY and brothers: Joseph Lee Payton of Columbus, OH, Lenwood Payton of Pacoima, CA Milton Payton of Brooklyn, NY and Fred Payton of New York, NY.
Phynner leaves to cherish memories, Grandchildren: Shaquanda Campbell, Tarha Nicole Waters, Krista Lee Waters and Marquis Waters; Great Grandchildren: Zenaida Campbell, ZyAsia Campbell, and Roman DeMarco Ojeda. Phynner also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Phynner was especially close to his lifelong friend Jimmy Cook. The family extends our heartfelt thanks to Jimmy for his support over the years.
