Obituary for Timothy R. Mullins
Timothy R. Mullins, a proud New York City native, committed husband, devoted and beloved father and grandfather, passed away on November 14, 2019. He was 73 years old.
Timothy was born March 27, 1946, to Timothy and Rose Mullins of New York City. He was a Greenwich Village native, though the neighborhood he knew and loved has long ceased to exist.
At the age of 18, Timothy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served one tour in Vietnam. He was attached to 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines and later 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, stationed primarily in Chu Lai.
Upon returning from Vietnam, Timothy worked as a bartender at the White Horse Tavern on Hudson Street. Over the years, his work experience would include being a phone clerk on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange as well as being both a mover and salesman for several NYC-based moving companies. In his later years he sold commercial office equipment before retiring.
When not working, Timothy was a committed family man, spending most of his time with his wife Theresa and son Michael. Whether through a game of horse, fishing, tennis or just a walk and talk, Timothy created an innumerable amount of lasting memories with his son, he was the greatest father a boy could ask for. Until the day he died, Timothy showed his family love and support.
An avid reader, Timothy enjoyed reading the daily newspaper and could lose himself in books on Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, having had an affinity for Marcus Aurelius and Julius Cesar. He also enjoyed Irish Folk music, such as the Clancy Brothers, as well as 1950s and 1960s rock & roll and rhythm and blues.
A patriot, Timothy loved his country and maintained great admiration for his fellow veterans throughout his life.
For his many friends and family members, Timothy was most known for his sense of humor, intelligence and wit that could rarely be matched. Few could resist his Irish charm, while many others admired him for his loyalty. Timothy was loved by all who knew him.
He was also a natural debater, quick with a comeback and clever with the delivery of an argument. Timothy, as a former boxer in the Marine Corps and having grown up in what was once a tough, working class neighborhood, was able to defend himself if necessary.
Timothy is survived by his wife Theresa Cummings-Mullins, son Michael Mullins, daughter-in-law Karma Cinnante, and grandsons Salvatore Mullins and Timothy Mullins, who is the namesake of his grandfather. He is also survived by his sisters Kathleen Carr and Rosemary Larkin as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents and brothers, Walter Mullins and John Mullins.
