Condolence From: Estelle Stanger
Condolence: I liked Lucy the moment I met her. She was soft spoken, intelligent, serious, philosophical, interesting and interested. She had a special air of dignity about her. So glad you got to have 50 good years together and so sad that she had to leave, but She will always be a part of your heart. Love, Estelle

Condolence From: Mary Gibbs
Condolence: I only met Lucy during my brief stay in New York with my husband, Peter Philippson, in 2012. I immediately felt drawn to her; I felt that I could trust her to say exactly what she thought, whether or not it was comfortable for me. I would have loved to have been able to get to know her better - some friendships have to stay in the might-have-beens, I guess. But I am glad I met her!

Condolence: Lucy never suffered fools lightly. (My mother was like that, too, but she wasn't intellectual like Lucy). A conversation with Lucy always forced an elevated use of your words, thoughts and ideas. And no matter the subject, Lucy always had an enlightened view - simultaneously opinionated and nonjudgmental. It was marvelous to be on the other end of that. Gatherings were always enhanced by the presence of Lucy.
