Obituary for Mary I. Garvey (O'Connell)

Mary Garvey (O’Connell) passed away on June 23, 2019 at NYU Lagone Hospital with her daughters at her side.
Mary was the daughter of the late John O’Connell of Bruff County Limerick, Ireland and the late Ellen (nee Higgins of Strand Hill County Sligo, Ireland. She was the wife of the late John A, Garvey who passed away in 1988. She was preceded in death by her John and Patrick O’Connell and her sisters Catherine Cassatto, Margaret Byrne, Helen Johnson and Norah Reynolds.
She was preceded in death by her son John D. Garvey in 2018 and is survived by her daughters Catherine M. McComiskey of Edison, NJ, Noreeen V. Fitzgerald of Hoboken, NJ and her only grandchild Skylar M. Garvey of New Hope, PA. and many loving Nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Mary’s career after raising her children sent her to Wall Street where she was employed by Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith Inc. for 19 years and after brief retirement she began a second career on Wall Street for 9 years at J.J. Kenny. Upon her retirement Mary volunteered as an Offertory Counter at Our Lady of Pompeii Church for 19 Years. She was acknowledged for her service by receiving a Papal Blessing from Pope Francis.
Mary attended daily Mass at Our Lady of Pompeii when her health allowed, was the Recording Secretary of the Ladies Guild and a member of the Senior Center at Our Lady of Pompeii.
