Obituary for Eunice Camargo de Souza

Eunice Camargo de Souza (age 97) started her eternal life with her LORD Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Eunice was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She loved her adopted Manhattan since moving to NYC in 1957. Eunice was a beloved member of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, and she was held in esteem by many others of the Manhattan Christian family, as she was very engaged with the NYC Christian community: she was one of the founding members of Manhattan Baptist Church, Metro Baptist Church, and she loved to fellowship with many from other churches; Times Square Church NYC and Calvary Baptist Church to name two. Eunice cared deeply and was a ready encourager of her family and her friends.

Eunice’s work life exemplified her strong faith and dedication to Christian service. She retired from the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies, Inc. She used her career with FPWA to impact many lives. Also, Eunice was a teacher and a memorable spokeswoman for Brazilian culture. Eunice’s family, who miss her “force of nature” energy, include her youngest sister Airse, her four nieces, Regina Lucia, Rosali, Alzira Angelica, Rosana, her two nephews Reinaldo, Djalma Junior, her nephew-in-law, Nicholas Lampropoulos, and her many grandnieces/nephews.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, a celebration of Ms. De Souza’s life will be held at a much later date at the chapel of FAPC in Manhattan.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your church or favorite organization, in her memory. Thank you.
