Lawrence J. Altieri, 76, of NYC, passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2020 from natural causes. Born: October 11, 1944 in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Vincent James and Anna Marie Lazarevic Altieri. Lawrence spent his early years in New Haven, CT before moving with his family to France and Switzerland. His late father Vincent James Altieri, was an electrical engineer, working for the US Air Force as a private contractor building military and civilian airports in France, Spain and Labrador. His family later moved to Jackson Heights, NY where he spent his teen years and most of his adult life until moving to NYC. Lawrence attended Georgetown University, earning his degree summa cum laude, from Pace University in NYC. He worked as a Copy Editor at John Wiley & Sons before retiring. One of Lawrence’s greatest joys was his collection of books which he purchased frequently and read passionately. His favorite places were Barnes and Noble, thrift book stores, and Starbucks. He wrote books and many short stories, not published. Lawrence cherished his family, his heritage and their heirlooms. He had many friends, was loved by his family and will always be remembered for his quick wit and kind-hearted spirit. Lawrence is survived by his brother Francis B. Altieri, his sister-in-law Aranka Altieri (wife of the late Vincent C. Altieri), niece Constance Altieri Lusdyk, her husband Peter and their children Nicholas, Daniel and Matthew; nephew Michael Altieri, his wife Alison and their children Owen, Hannah and Ethan; cousins Joseph Depetto and Catherine Maturo.
In addition to his parents Vincent James and Anna Marie Lazarevic Altieri, he is predeceased by his brother Vincent C. Altieri; nephew Daniel Altieri; cousin Geraldine DePetto; aunts Viola Altieri, Theresa Altieri DePetto and Edith Altieri Maturo. Lawrence’s final resting place will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven, Ct. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
