Effie was a well-known artist and ceramic sculptress in her
community. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts and
lived and worked all of her 70 years in New York City.
Effie was predeceased by her parents, Marcos and Mary Serlis.
She is survived by her sisters, Irene Serlis and Helen Karchere, her
nieces, Kristen Karchere, Rachel Lopez and Rebecca Roseberry, and her
cousins, Irene Panagos, John George, Joy Cummings and Mary Mireau.
She had numerous other close cousins on both sides of her family
and many good friends.
Effie was very proud of her Greek heritage and loved Greece, its
music, language and most of all, its food. She had a beautiful soprano
voice and sang in Greek chorales, including the Metropolitan Greek
Chorale.
Effie was creative, intelligent and fun loving. She was a truly
extraordinary individual who lived her passions.
She was a member of a community garden, where she grew
flowers and vegetables. She also arranged and participated in drawing
with the other artists in the garden.
Effie achieved financial success, in a field too often populated
with struggling artists.
Effie was one-of-a-kind. She will be fondly remembered and
definitely missed.
