James Lewis was born on November 15, 1937, In Brooklyn, NY. He was born to William A. Lewis and Panalia Lewis, (both deceased.) James Lewis received his education in the New York City School System. James was known as Boobie to his friends and family. I his early Years, he was a photographer. He then became a truck driver until he moved to Manhattan. No matter where he went, he was always well dressed. He also adored music and dancing.
He married Kathryn Clark and together had seven children; James, Jr.. Antoine, Chelda, Deval (deceased), Deneed, Maureen, and Angenette.

His hobbies were horse racing and gambling. He also loved reading and always had a story to tell. He loved telling stories. He also enjoyed playing cards with his grandchildren.

James lost his love, Kathryn, on April 26, 2014.He leaves to mourn his children, James Lewis, Jr., Antoine Lewis, Chelda Shine, Deneen Lewis, Maureen Lewis and Angenette Lewis. He also leaves six grandchildren; Isiah Reed, Justine Shine, Jacqueline Gunn, Tyrone Shine, Tyrell Lewis, Demetrius Shine, great grandchildren, Janay Gunn, Ja'nel Gunn (deceased) and Khaza Gunn, and a host of sisters, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
