Obituary for Dr. Richard Hamblin Coburn

Richard Hamblin Coburn died at NYU Langone Medical Center
after a brief illness on November 5, 2022.
Dr. Coburn was born and educated in Rutland. VT and
attended Cornell University for undergraduate and
Veterinary school. As a boy he worked at the Thomas
Dairy Farm in Rutland and excelled at obedience training with his dog,
Rocky.

Dr. Coburn had been a member of the Milford Lions
Club, past president of New Jersey Veterinary Medical
Association, and The New York City Gay Men's Chorus. He enjoyed
chorale music, theatre, traveling, hosting visitors from
around the world; and he loved being a veterinarian, still practicing at the Montague Veterinary Hospital he bought 50 animal-loving years ago until 2 weeks before he died.

He is survived by his spouse, Dr. Paul A. Ramsey; his
former wife, Anne "Laurie" Shepard Coburn; his sons, Jay
and Seth (Luisa); his daughters, Heather (Scott) Snyder
and Annie (Robert) Coburn-Kane; and two sons he helped raise, Sean and Timothy Ramsey. He is predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Arthur Coburn, and sister Constance
Adams.

There will be a private funeral at his church in New York City, and a Service/Party in the tradition of Richard and Paul in January. Those wishing to do something in his memory are encouraged to make an online contribution to the international charities he founded with Paul: In Mexico, Friends of Puerto Aventuras (www.friendsofpa.org), dedicated to educating indigenous Mayan children and adults; and The India Group (theindiagroup.net), providing education and health care to low-caste Indian families.

If you’re interested in attending the January Party, contact a family member or leave a message at the animal hospital (973-293-7132).
