Obituary for Sylvia Walker

Sylvia Walker was born on November 25, 1940 in Pembroke, Bermuda to Arnold MacDonald Gumbs (Andy) and Florence Gumbs, the fourth of five children. She departed this life on November 17, 2015 at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.
After graduating from Berkeley High School in Bermuda at the age of eighteen Sylvia came to New York City and lived most of her life here.
Sylvia worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Manhattan for 31 years where she held several positions as an Executive Receptionist, Utilization Review Specialist and Secretary. In 1992 Sylvia joined the Hunter College Chorus while studying there for two years. In her spare time Sylvia loved to sew, was an excellent seamstress and loved to go shopping.
Sylvia leaves to mourn: her loving mother, Florence; brothers, Raymond and David; Aunt Carlene of Queens, New York, several nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her father, Andy Gumbs; sister, Sheila; brother Vincent and ex-husband, Marvin Walker.
